Is Mobile Video Taking Over the Web?

Over the past few years, mobile devices have become overwhelmingly popular; approximately one-third of the American population owns a mobile device. In January through March of 2013, 10% of all video consumption was through a mobile device like a smartphone or tablet. Mobile tablets have become more like a second television screen for more than 33% of American adults, who watch at least an hour or more of video content everyday, on average. Mobile devices are becoming more affordable and video functionality is becoming standard among most models.

Interesting Mobile Video Statistics
According to a recent study by YuMe, 100% of tablet users surveyed watch videos at home, 66% watch videos on vacation, 22% of users watch videos while at work or commuting to work, and 13% of users watch video content while out dining with friends. Video is everywhere!

33% of mobile tablet users watch video for up to an hour a day on weekdays, while 24% watch up to 2 hours of video over the weekend. 8% of adults watch more than 4 hours of video content on the weekend! Less distractions = more time to watch your video.

According to the same report, videos viewed on a mobile device were recalled more easily; 57% of tablet users were able to recall a video ad without prompting. On average, viewers watch online video 40% longer on tablets than on any other device. Advertisers that create mobile-specific ad content were deemed “cooler” by the survey participants. If you want your video to be watched – and remembered – design it for mobile devices.

Mobile videos and mobile video ads are becoming more and more popular as mobile devices are appearing in more hands across the nation. If you want your advertisement to reach the audience of the future, you need to start thinking about how to attract your mobile consumer.
